Rhode Island Court Advocacy Program will Close Mondays

This will be one of the last Mondays in which advocates accompany victims of domestic violence to court.  The domestic violence court advocacy program is closing on Mondays because of state budget cuts.  State support for victims of domestic violence has been on the decline for six years.

Rhode Island Nonprofits Feel the Squeeze

Harrington Hall, the state's largest homeless shelter, has been struggling under reduced finding an increased demand for service.

It’s hard to turn on the news these days without hearing about another nonprofit in financial trouble.  Advent House – the state’s first homeless shelter – is without a director because it can’t afford one. John Hope Settlement House is bleeding $30,000 a month. And the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence has laid off a third of its staff.

No More Violence campaign lights up Statehouse

The State House will be illuminated in a bluish green color for the next week in recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention month.  The color teal has become emblematic of the “No More” campaign mounted by the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  The lighting is one of many activities the Coalition and its member agencies are hosting throughout February to reach out to teens and young adults.
