Former Brown Dean Sworn in as President of Connecticut College

Brown's former Dean of the College Katherine Bergeron became the 11th president of Connecticut College on Friday, following an official inauguration ceremony.

Former Brown President Ruth Simmons gave the keynote speech, calling Bergeron "a scholar who loves teaching, an administrator who eschews rigidity, and a musician without an elitist esthetic."

Former Brown President Simmons Honored by French Government

Former Brown University president Ruth Simmons is being honored by the French government for her contributions to the advancement of French arts and culture.

Brown has been named Chevalier in the French National Order of the Legion of Honor.  The award is the highest decoration offered by the French government.

Simmons is not only fluent in French but has written about French-speaking authors and poets.

Ruth Simmons joins board at Princeton

Outgoing Brown University President Ruth Simmons will take a seat on the board of trustees at Princeton University next month. Simmons is stepping down on June 30th as head of Brown, ending an 11-year tenure at the Providence institution.

Simmons is no stranger to Princeton. She held several positions at the New Jersey school, including that of vice provost, before becoming president of Smith University. When she became president at Brown University, Simmons was the first African-American to lead an Ivy League school.

Outgoing Brown President Ruth Simmons is preparing her final address to the campus community. She’s slated to speak tomorrow at a baccalaureate ceremony as part of Brown’s graduation weekend.
