After considering a possible Providence mayoral run for months, Lorne Adrain has filed notice with the state Board of Elections that he plans to pursue a campaign.

David Caprio Backed By Speaker Fox to Become Next Chair of the RI Democratic Party

Former State Rep David Caprio may become the next chair of the Rhode Island democrats.

Former state rep David Caprio has House Speaker Gordon Fox’s blessing to become the next chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Party.  Rhode Island Democrats are expected to formally endorse Caprio during an October 3rd state committee meeting in Cranston.  

David Caprio is a member of one of Rhode Island’s most prominent political families. His brother Frank ran for governor in 2010 and hope to win back his old job as state treasurer next year. Their father, also named Frank Caprio, is the chief municipal judge in Providence.

Capellan Drops Out of Providence Mayoral Race

The Providence mayoral race is continuing to come into focus, as Victor Capellan ducks out.

An educator who works in Central Falls has decided not to run for mayor of Providence.  The decision by Victor Capellan leaves the field with just one Latino candidate.

Capellan is a longtime political activist who took steps to organize a campaign earlier this year. He said the demands of his job as a deputy school superintendent in Central Falls are why he’s pulling out of the race.

Capellan Exits the Providence Mayoral Field; Lombardi Leaning Toward "Yes"

Central Falls educator Victor Capellan has folded the tent on his 2014 Providence mayoral run, leaving Jorge Elorza as the lone Latino candidate in the race.

Capellan, a longtime political activist, says Elorza didn't encourage him to leave the campaign. Yet it's clear that the departure, coming on the heels of Ward 15 Councilwoman Sabina Matos' decision last week to seek re-election, accrues to Elorza's benefit.
