WPRI-ProJo Poll Shows Magaziner Leading Caprio By 12 Points

In the race for state treasurer, first-time candidate Seth Magaziner is leading former treasurer Frank Caprio, 43 percent to 31 percent, with 24 percent of voters undecided, according to a new WPRI-TV/Providence Journal poll.

The survey measures 503 likely Democratic primary voters.

After losing a race for governor in 2010, Caprio is one of two Democrats running in the September 9 primary to succeed outgoing Treasurer Gina Raimondo, who is running for governor. Catherine Taylor Sounds Economic Message in Unveiling GOP Run for Lieutenant Governor

Catherine Taylor on Monday launched her Republican campaign for lieutenant governor by vowing to use the office as a bully pulpit for improving the state's economic climate.

Taylor is a former aide to the late senator John Chafee, and she stepped down last week as head of the state Division of Elderly Affairs. Speaking outside the Business Innovation Factory in Providence's Olneyville section, Taylor was joined by her family and other Republicans, including gubernatorial candidates Allan Fung and Ken Block, in formally launching her campaign.
