Clinton Endorses Magaziner, Backs His Economic Blueprint

Former President Bill Clinton came to Rhode Island Wednesday to lend his support to an old family friend, Seth Magaziner, one of two Democrats vying to be the state's next treasurer. More than 200 people turned out for the fundraiser ($50 suggested contribution) at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

For Bill Clinton, FOB Magaziner trumps past Caprio support

In December, 1991 Bill Clinton swooped into Providence for a University Club fund-raiser for his nascent presidential campaign. He arrived at Green Airport in a small  private plane and was met by former Providence Mayor Joseph Paolino, Suzanne Magaziner and her young son.

As Clinton got off the plane, he reached out and patted the young boy on the head. ``Hey Seth, how areyah?, said the Arkansas governor in the drawl that would become known around the world after his 1992 election as president.

Nuala Pell, Spouse And Political Partner Of Sen. Claiborne Pell, Dies

Nuala Pell, widow of revered Sen. Claiborne Pell, confidante of Pastores, Kennedys and European royalty, a force in Rhode Island politics for decades and a woman who was as at ease at a Democratic Party rally at a Portuguese Club as she was with the well-born swells of Newport society at Bailey’s Beach, died early this morning at Newport Hospital. She was 89.

The Pell family has announced a memorial service to be held Monday, April 21 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newport, at 11 a.m.

From RI to Virginia Guv race: The Caramadre-McAuliffe connection

The Washington Post has the story on how Rhode Island's Joseph Caramadre case has reverberated in the Virginia governor's race. The story, by Post reporter Laura Vozzella, describes how ``a dying mechanic wanted a few thousand dollars to leave to his wife, two sons and infant daughter. A politically connected millionaire, now running for Virginia governor, wanted to make some money. And a Rhode Island estate planner wantd to become ambassador to the Vatican.

``All three came together in late 2006 in a deal struck just two months before the 44-year old mechanic died of cancer.''

RISD prof examines “privileged white people”

A new exhibit of work by the artist Christopher Ho entitled “Privileged White People” is now on view at New York’s Forever & Today, Inc. gallery. The show features large photographs of people like President Bill Clinton and the actor James Van Der Beek, of Dawson’s Creek fame.
