After Hiatus, Quonset Air Show To Return In May

A popular Rhode Island air show will be back next spring after a one-year hiatus prompted by federal sequestration cuts. 

The Rhode Island National Guard says its popular air show will be held May 17th and 18th.  The Navy’s Blue Angels will be the headline act.  It was cancelled at the last minute last year, disappointing many fans.

The show has been held annually since 1991 and draws thousands of spectators to the Quonset Air National Guard base.  Last year was the only time since its founding it was not held.

Fate of Quonset Air Show Decided by Friday

The Rhode Island Air National Guard says it will know by Friday whether or not to hold the Quonset Air Show this year.  The show is threatened by the impact of federal sequestration cuts.

The Quonset Air Show is one of the most popular events in Rhode Island, attracting some 100,000 people to North Kingstown every June. But this year’s show, scheduled for June 29th and 30th may be cancelled. Rhode Island Air National Guard spokesman Christopher Peloso says all seven military acts have cancelled due to federal sequestration cuts, leaving just seven civilian flying acts.
