Construction For Offshore Wind Farm Kicks Off In Quonset Point

Welders from Special Diving Services have started to build parts for the foundation of the Block Island Wind Farm, slated to go online by the end of next year.

Welders have started to build parts for a wind energy facility off the coast of Block Island. It’s on track to be the country’s first offshore wind farm.  State leaders were on hand for the start of construction today (Monday). Rhode Island Public Radio’s environmental reporter Ambar Espinoza says they are calling it a great day for Rhode Island and the nation.

Regional Council Makes Case For Clean Energy In Rhode Island

  Executives in the clean energy sector will meet with lawmakers Tuesday at the statehouse to showcase their growing industry. The event is organized by the New England Clean Energy Council. Coordinator Charity Pennock said many lawmakers lack information about what the clean energy industry does.

“So having people come in who are running businesses, who are doing work in the state, really describe what they’re doing and how they’re both developing their companies and participating in the economy is important,” said Pennock.

Renewable Energy Program Produces Positive Economic, Environmental Impacts

The state's renewable energy fund and the program designed to stimulate the development of renewable energy projects in Rhode Island are producing positive outcomes: more jobs and less pollution. That's according to a recent report by the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources.

RISD, Brown Team Up To Build A Solar House

Students from RISD, Brown, and the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt in Germany are building a solar house using existing materials in new ways to create a soft enclosure. This is a rendering of the solar house.

Leave it to a team of the brightest students in Rhode Island to design a solar-powered house made almost entirely out of high-quality fabrics. Students from Brown, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt in Germany are competing as one team, called Team Inside Out, in the 2014 Solar Decathlon Europe, taking place in Versailles, France in July.

Quonset Business Park To Welcome Another Solar Company

The Quonset Development Corporation has given a Colorado-based renewable energy company, Bella Energy, the green light to build a solar farm.

The solar farm will sit on an acre and a half, out of the five acres Bella Energy will lease.

Ted Kresse, spokesperson for the Quonset Development Corporation, said the land Bella Energy will lease is not fit for industrial development, but works for solar projects.
