Rhode Island-based nonprofit, The Providence Plan, is handling fallout from the discovery of embezzlement by its Finance Director Charles Denno. 

Denno, who allegedly had a gambling problem, is under investigation for the disappearance of at least $600,000 over a four-year period.

A grand jury has indicted Providence City Councilor Kevin Jackson on five separate counts, including embezzlement and personal use of campaign funds. The finding follows Jackson's arrest by State Police in May, and his subsequent resignation as majority leader of the city council.

State police have arrested a Warwick attorney on charges of embezzling from an elderly client.  The investigation was launched at the request of the state Supreme Court.

State police have charged a Central Falls clerk with embezzlement. The clerk in the finance office is charged with taking thousands of dollars in fines collected by the city’s Municipal Court.

The city’s finance director noticed discrepancies, did an audit, and discovered that over a period of time a total of $13,620 in cash and checks were transferred to collections clerk Joyce Tager but never deposited into the city’s bank account.
