Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Fight For State Party Endorsement

The leading Democratic candidates for governor used a partisan event Tuesday to describe themselves as the best choice to help struggling Rhode Islanders. A little more than three months remains until the primary election on September 9.

Candidates for state and federal offices spoke to the Democratic state committee, which will decide party endorsements next month. Gubernatorial candidate Gina Raimondo used the occasion to preview her first TV commercial. It pays homage to her father, Joseph, who died at age 87 earlier this month.

Rep. Frank Ferri of Warwick mulling Democratic Lt. Gov. run

Rep. Frank Ferri, D-Warwick, said today he may become the third candidate to vy for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

Ferri represents House District 22. He was first elected in a 2007 special election to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Peter Ginaitt, who left the House for an executive post at the Lifespan hospital chain.

Efforts To Curb Payday Lending At The Statehouse Once Again

The issue of payday lending has come up many times in recent years at the general assembly.

Legislation dealing with payday loans is once again working its way through the general assembly.

This is the latest of several attempts in recent years to curb payday lending in Rhode Island at the Statehouse.

The controversial practice offers quick loans, but they often come with interest rates that can soar to more than two-hundred fifty percent.

At the Statehouse, Representative Frank Ferri, and Senator Juan Pichardo announced they’ll introduce legislation capping payday loan interest rates at thirty six percent.

With Same-Sex Marriage Legal State Rep Frank Ferri Plans to Marry

As same-sex marriage becomes legal in Rhode Island Thursday, state Representative Frank Ferri and his longtime partner are among those planning to mark the day by tying the knot.  It took almost 20 years to legalize same-sex marriage in the Ocean State.

Ferri and his partner, Tony Caparco, plan to marry in Warwick this evening with about 300 friends and family members on hand. House Speaker Gordon Fox will perform the ceremony. Ferri, a Warwick Democrat, says the newfound ability of gays and lesbians to marry in Rhode Island will lend special meaning to the nuptials.
