Chafee Announces $2.1 Million For Youth Summer Work Experiences

Governor Lincoln Chafee has announced that $2.1 million dollars of state and federal funding will support youth summer work experiences in a variety of industries this summer. Starting in July, more than 20 community-based organizations will provide work experience and work-readiness training to residents between 14 and 24 years old.

Gordon Fox is out as speaker and Nick Mattiello is in. Democrats control both chambers of the General Assembly by big margins. RI Officials Remember Fallen Heroes

State officials gathered this morning to remember Rhode Islanders who made the ultimate sacrifice.  The Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony in the Garden of Heroes, outside of the state capitol building.  Gov. Lincoln Chafee, joined other officials to honor those who have fought for our country. 

“It’s a day of memory for those who died in great service for our nation, and mixed in with the fun of the barbeque, and the family events," said Chafee.  "I’m sure that everybody does pause at some time, to remember as they well should.”

Angel Taveras hires top Washington, D.C. firm to plan governor race

In another sign that Providence Mayor Angel Taveras is serious about running for governor in 2014: sources close to the mayor say he has hired a leading Washington, D.C.-based political consulting firm and top Rhode Island campaign strategist J.B. Poersch, a longtime aide to U.S. Sen. Jack Reed.

Taveras has retained SKDKnickerbocker as his campaign consultants. Poersch and veteran consultant Bill Knapp will lead the team advising Taveras as he plans his campaign.
