Rhode Islanders Head To Washington For The President's State Of The Union Address

Four Rhode Islanders are joining the congressional delegation for tonight’s State of the Union Address.

Rhode Island’s senior Sen. Jack Reed’s guest will be Anne Nolan, president of the non-profit homeless agency Crossroads RI. Sen.

Sheldon Whitehouse is bringing businessman Scott DePasquale, the CEO of Utilidata, a company that moved to Rhode Island from Washington state two years ago.

Over in the House, Congressman Jim Langevin’s guest is Davide Dukcevich of Daniele Foods, a Burrillville company specializing in gourmet Italian meats.

Reis Says He's Running for Congress Because the Status Quo Isn't Getting It Done

Rhue Reis, a 56-year-old small businessman from North Kingstown, says he's making a long shot challenge to seven-term Democratic Congressman Jim Langevin because Congress is failing to get the job done for ordinary Americans.

Joined by his wife and their two daughters, Reiss announced his campaign during a news conference Thursday afternoon at the American restaurant on Providence's West Side. The first-time candidate says he doesn't consider Congress an entry-level job, before adding:

GOP Small Businessman Plans to Challenge Langevin

Rhue Reis, a contractor from Saunderstown, plans to announce a Republican challenge to Congressman Jim Langevin on January 23.

Reis, a first-time candidate, outlines some of his issue stances on his Web site. He says Obamacare became law because Congress was "sold a bill of goods on false pretenses." Ress favors returning the power of the federal government "to what I believe the Founders envisioned it to be" and says the Second Amendment should "never be diminished."

Congressman Jim Langevin Duped By Cranston Investment Scheme

Congressman Jim Langevin says he was among the legions of people who were duped by Cranston estate planner Joseph Caramadre.  The congressman is donating money he made as a profit from Caramadre’s unscrupulous scheme.

Congressman Jim Langevin said he unwittingly made a profit on an investment scheme that preyed on terminally ill people.  Langevin said he earned a profit of 86-hundred dollars from Joseph Caramadre’s Cranston estate planning business. Langevin said he donated profit to charity as soon as he became aware of Caramadre’s business practices.
