Why the baseball all-star game is the best

The baseball all-star game is the best of all the major American professional sports because the players actually play defense, unlike the NBA’s basketball all-star farce and the NFL’s pro bowl, a game that resembles nothing so much as Arena football. Even the NHL all-star fest features scant defense.

Patriots Hernandez Taken from Home in Handcuffs, Released

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been released after being arrested on unspecified charges Wednesday morning.  The arrest comes eight days after his friend, semi-pro player Odin Lloyd, was found dead about a mile from Hernandez’ home.

Massachusetts state troopers and North Attleboro police arrested Hernandez at 8:47 a.m. at his North Attleboro home. He was led away in handcuffs and casually spit into some bushes on his way to the cruiser.

Harvard announces major NFL study

Harvard University is partnering with the National Football League on a $100 million research project looking into serious health problems among NFL players. The initiative announced in today's Boston Globe will focus on 1,000 retired NFL players to better understand and potentially treat a wide range of physical ailments.
