Loughlin says he’s not qualified to pursue the RI GOP chairmanship

John Loughlin, one of the Rhode Island GOP’s strongest voices, says he doesn’t intend to seek the chairmanship of the state Republican Party.

The current chairman, Mark Zaccaria, plans to give up the post early next year, according to Anchor Rising’s Monique Chartier.

As 2012 spills into 2013, the Rhode Island political trend worth watching is how Republicans deal with the drubbing their party took at almost every level. Republicans actually lost state House and Senate seats and were crushed in elections for U.S. Senate and House. You have to go back to the mid-1970s to find a time when no Republican served in either statewide or federal office.

Campaign manager says Doherty not necessarily closing the door on politics

Brendan Doherty doesn’t intend to run for the House again, but he may be open to seeking some other office, according to Doherty’s campaign manager, Ian Prior.

Following his concession remarks at the Providence Marriott last night, Doherty seemed to rule out another political run. RIPR’s Flo Jonic provided this transcription:

Jonic: Do you see another political run in your future?

Doherty: This was no dress rehearsal.

Jonic: By you saying this was no dress rehearsal, you mean ‘not again’?

State GOP rips group’s endorsements of Democratic professionals over Republican small businessmen

The state Republican Party is unhappy that a group with a self-described mission of supporting “pro-jobs” legislative candidates is backing at least two Democratic professionals over Republican small businessmen.

Cicilline exults in primary victory, quickly shifts attack to congressional Republicans

David Cicilline is 10 years older and carries the wear-and-tear of much more political mileage than when he emerged in a four-way 2002 Democratic primary as the new sensation of Providence politics.
