RI Food Bank Graduates Another Class Of Culinary Students Ready To Work

A dozen students receiving culinary job training at the Rhode Island Food Bank graduate Friday evening. The program takes highly motivated low-income residents and trains them to work in the restaurant and hospitality industries.

 

The Food Bank launched the program 17 years ago, it's currently held in a modern industrial kitchen built at their site. As part of the 14-week program, cooking students prepare 600 hot meals a day for children in after-school programs in Providence. The Food Bank said this graduating class has made about 22,000 meals for school kids.

Fast Food Workers Protest For Higher Wages

Demonstrators and workers gathered to protest the minimum wage fast food chain Wendy’ s Thursday afternoon in Warwick.

Dozens of people gathered in the light rain in front of Wendy’s on Warwick Ave demanding an increase in lowest level pay from seven dollars seventy-five cents to fifteen dollars an hour.

The protest was one of one-hundred strikes going on in different cities throughout the country. 

Protestor Bounche Dorbor of Central Falls has been working at Wendy’s for the last five years making seven dollars seventy-five cents an hour.

Iconic Downtown Diner 'Eddie and Son' Serves its Last Meals

Eddie And Son Diner has been operating out of it's Dorrance St. location for the last 20 years. Before that it was located on Westminster, Pine and Broadway.

After more than 65 years in business, the iconic Providence eatery, Eddy and Son’s Diner is shutting its doors.

About a dozen customers sat scattered through the restaurant in the calm before the early lunch rush at Eddie and Son Diner in downtown Providence on their final day of business.

The restaurant has been serving affordable Italian and diner fare for the last 70 years, always taking only cash.

At the counter Connie Caputo, who runs the restaurant with her husband takes orders at the cash register.

RI has 3 of the most romantic restaurants in the country

Three Rhode Island restaurants have been named “most romantic” as the result of reviews given by consumers across the country.    Making the list of the Top 100 Romantic Restaurants on the website OpenTable.com are Basil’s Restaurant in Narragansett, Bouchard Restaurant in Newport, and the Spiced Pear in Newport.  

The ratings were given after evaluating five-million reviews consumer reviews.  

The reviews rated Italian, French, American,European/continental, fondue,and seafood cuisines as the most popular.
