Rhode Island’s Jewish community is on heightened alert after a series of bomb threats were called in to Jewish Community Centers across the country, including Providence, last Monday.

A group of Rhode Island religious and civil rights groups have scheduled a news conference Tuesday morning to express their support for the Muslim Community in the Ocean State.

UPDATE: Rhode Island churches are organizing memorial services to remember the lives lost in the Charleston, South Carolina church shooting incident that claimed the lives of nine African-Americans who were worshipping at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The first service is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 24th at Olney Street Baptist Church in Providence, according to the Rev. Donald Anderson of the R.I. State Council of Churches.
